The Haunted Cabbage Key Inn
The History
One hundred acres of tropical vegetation surround our historic restaurant, inn and cottages. A panoramic view of Pine Island Sound is provided from the front porch of our open-air restaurant situated atop a 38 foot Indian Shell Mound. There are no cars here, not even a paved road. You will find winding nature trails, picturesque views and relaxation. The Main House was built in the 1930's by the family of playwright and novelist Mary Roberts Rinehart.\
According to the locals, the inn's restaurant specialty "Cheeseburgers in Paradise" inspired the Jimmy Buffet ht. Another of its claims to fame is its ghost. The apparition of a woman with long brown hair has been known to vsit guest rooms, and a busboy's tub once flew across the kitchen. Folks speculate that the ghost is a New York woman who once came to the inn to recover from tuberculosis, but passed away.
